First - There is a great use of dominant foreground and contributing background to capture a dramatic storytelling moment. The photographer’s observation of the scene, sensitivity to the moment, and technical execution are admirable. Second - Strong compositions in wide shots are more difficult than in details. This photographer really pulled it off and captured the scale of this event in one grand photograph. Third - This photograph has an excellent caption and managed to add some drama to the spot news event even after the main activity had transpired.
