Excellent mix of natural and artificial light used in the first-place image. The different elements in her bedroom give a good sense of her personality, as does her smile despite the seriousness of her disease. Second place was a very well-lit food shot that was elevated by the use of fire to frame the food in the foreground. The third-place image was recognized for its creative use of light. The blue gel and high angle made for a clean, creative backdrop. The judges are probably going to borrow from this concept next time we have to photograph three people in a gym.
