The first place photo is a great use of a mirror and reflection for a portrait. The fact that the mirror is also being used by the subject to see how his hair is being cut put this photo on top. This is also a unique and intimate look into the asylum seekers at the U.S. border. The second place portrait really captures this woman’s personality while she is surrounded by her colorful abode. The judges like the third place image because it felt like a unique way to do a group portrait by giving them the dogs as props and added personality to the photograph.
