First Place: “Basketball” rose to the top in the category. The photo is shot at a nice angle, and we appreciate how the photographer was able to balance the light with the bright sun, making for nice light on the subject's face. Second Place: It's nice to see a different portrait style with the close-up shot for “Swimmer.” The light on her face is well done, and the viewer doesn't need to see the rest of the frame to understand what they're looking at. Third Place: The photographer did a nice job balancing the window light with the key light in “Coltonhiller.” And keeping the frame wide helps give the viewer a sense of place. Alternate: We thought “Uncle Sam” was a nice environmental portrait for a patriotic story.
