The first-place story stood above the rest because the photographer consistently used better light and composition. Even though there was some repetition, we felt the overall storytelling was stronger than the competition. The second-place story about the Greek Orthodox service covered all the bases well and offered some variety in perspective. Still, we wanted to see more close-up moments and fewer wide overviews. Overall, several stories contained one or two strong photographs that might have competed in a single-photo category, but the complete packages lacked variety and tighter editing.
