Judges Comments

Lots of moments in this category made it fun to judge. A powerful moment involving a retiring volleyball pro player and her stepfather made for a really nice frame. We liked the intentionally loose composition and the details in the background that added to the history. The image layered information naturally while remaining emotional. The second-place image succeeded because it showed both celebration and disappointment in the same frame. Having the winning and losing teams together gave the image strong storytelling value. We enjoyed the walk-off energy, the expression, and the chaos of teammates piling on after the winning hit for third.
