Central – March 2026 – Sports Action

Judges Comments

There were a lot of good photos in this category, so we chose ones that we thought had a unique way of capturing the action. First Place: The photographer made a very clean image in “Pitch” by shooting from up high. It's nice lighting and composition for a typical pitcher photo. Second Place: We like the framing from the basket in “SLU.” It can be risky to use a remote camera, but clearly this effort paid off. Again, the angle of shooting from up high makes for a clean background. Third Place: We chose “Dunk” because the viewer can feel movement in the image from the subject's hair and the basket's net. The dark background also makes for a clean dunking shot. Alternate: “Catcher Drops Ball Runner Safe” tells the whole story in one frame. From the helmet falling off to the ball rolling on the ground, it makes the viewer look around the whole image.
