Several entrants utilized the multi-photo entry option but then overloaded their submission with redundancy. In the protest honoring Renee Good the images of people holding photos of her were not different enough to include all of them, and the most compelling image was a person holding a single candle with a small sign.
Judges' note to all: If you're covering an historic event, like the inauguration of the first female governor of a state, make sure to include that in the caption because it's history.
1) The photographer did an excellent job of putting themselves in the right place to take advantage of the glass top table. The moment has layers, reflections and a hand leading the viewer's eye back to the person of interest, the Governor. The is an excellent example trying something different while waiting for an event to start.
2) A quiet moment of a mother grieving the loss of her child. The wider composition showing the Capitol gives a sense of place.
3) While this entry has redundancy, it is good coverage of an historic event. However, one would not know that from the provided captions.
