Judges Comments

GENW was probably the toughest category to judge as it was packed with a lot of great entries. First place grabbed the judges right away. This is photojournalism at its best. Real moment, clean lines, great lighting, impactful. For second place, we felt the Pretti Vigil multiple photo entry was a well thought out variety of images that could each stand on their own and made an informational package of the event. Third place is a more immersed look into those serving the homeless. This is a tough assignment, but the photographer worked to show a variety of scenes that help tell the story. The alternate is an unusual flag silhouette that we loved. A more informative cutline would have helped this image place. A side note: We also noted the Notears entry. Excellent capture. We could only pick three, with one alternate.
