This was a strong category that took some effort to pare down, partly because many images were more appropriate for the General News category. First place: We praised the photographer for waiting for this moment, with great lighting, the child's wonderful expression and engagement, and the adults cropped perfectly. Second place: Once again, we appreciated that the photographer waited for the right moment to appear, not only with the boy and his dad but especially the boy's reaching out toward the penguins. Third place: After debating whether this storytelling image of a beautiful moment was better suited for the General News category, we decided Santa Claus made it sufficiently a Feature and that the moment was too nice to split hairs and not rate it in this category. Honorable mention: We loved the natural light, the expression of the girl on the left, and the movement of the girl's hair on the right.
