First place has a nice variety of moments in a location where the spaces can start to feel similar. We appreciate how there was multiple days of coverage and various scenes inside and outside of the shelter. This photo essay stood out visually for first place but the captions could be improved upon, they felt repetitious and copy-pasted. Second place could have had a tighter edit overall with more consistent exposure but had clean captions that enhanced the images. Out of three total submissions in this category, we felt the other story in this category lacked time invested and depth to place.
