Judges commend the photographer for getting to so many locations in a volatile situation. However, when entering one should seriously consider how many images to include, rare is the spot news package with 15 distinctively different moments, angles, that add to the story, etc. Third place is a good moment, and judges understand there’s no way to avoid a fire hydrant in a spot news situation.
