First Place: It's nice to see emotion in golf coverage, which is why we chose “McIlroy Diamond” as the winner in this category. The light and framing are also nice as the photographer keeps the subjects, flag and fans in the frame. Second Place: The intense reactions caught our eye in “Tense.” It tells the story without having to show the action of the sport. Third Place: “Huddle” was an eye-catching image — pun intended. We like that it's a different kind of feature from the other photos. Alternate: We liked how the photographer captured the right moment of the club flying in the air and the fans cheering in “MacIlroy.” It's a busy photo, but it gives a sense of place and excitement.
