The first place photo was by far the best in the category. The composition paints a picture of a scene that hooks the viewer into it. It shows an eye that pays attention to even the smallest details. The second place shows a photographer engaged with their story, they were aware of the 1,000 points on the horizon and captured a great storytelling moment. The wider background brought in more to the image. Third place shows a nice intimate moment of a team not always seen. The alternate pick has so much potential. With a tighter crop, this could place higher. There is a great photo there, it just needs the crop to show it.
