Midwest – March 2025 – Feature/Single

Judges Comments

The judges were surprised that there were only two entries submitted in this category. Cruising for features is a great way to flex one's creativity and give our communities artful look at their surroundings. First place totally captures the essence of spring with a fabulously lucky find of a bright red hammock contrasted by a grove of white blooming trees. Gorgeous scene and capture by the photographer. (Go easy on the saturation slider, though.) Second place generated quite a bit of discussion among the judges. All agreed that the visual story potential here was lost in the busy surroundings and not knowing that the concrete was a headstone. We wished a slightly different angle and less cluttered scene. What the subject is doing is also difficult to see because the probe is lost in the background juxtaposed against the brush. The story of what this person is doing is an interesting one comments come with the hope our suggestions might be considered if photographing this again in the future in a follow up story.
