Judges Comments

First and second place immediately stood out in an overall weak category with not many entries. First place is the embodiment of a newspaper photographer covering a spot news event. They stayed with it all day long and into the night, made great frames and showed a variety of situations including the active fire and the aftermath. Second place is a solid news photo with all the elements in a clean frame. The timing it takes to get to the scene and make this photo with what appears to be good access is hard to do. It is also an unusual situation, not a typical standoff. Third place is an interesting picture from a house fire with good framing and a little bit of allure.
