The gap between first and second here was minuscule, thinner than a sunflower seed. The layering in the baseball reaction photo, the frozen seeds in the air, the facial expression - those gave it that little bit of an edge. The attention to detail and the craft shown in the second place photo (handling a very tricky exposure carefully) had us swapping these two. That one illuminated face alongside the other silhouetted players was grand. If the water jug wasn't in the third place frame, we might have thought it was a portrait - the composition there, the high angle, the edge control are all very well done.
