First place is a standout image with a heart-wrenching emotional moment. It is clean and immediately to the point, and the photographer's shooting position shows clear trust that brought access. Second place is a unique moment that helps to tell a broader story while also being visually interesting. The photographer took a step back from the scene to look at their surroundings and it paid off with a compelling photo. Third place is another good emotional photo from a difficult situation.
