Second place: When we think of images that capture everything in one frame, this really does it. From the coach’s excitement and the athlete’s reaction, to the team celebration and the small detail of an embrace in the background, this photo has a lot going for it. Wonderful work.
Third place: Like everything in photojournalism, you need to be ready for the unexpected and capturing this cup, with its spray covering a team that just doesn’t care, is definitely unexpected. Right place, right time, right moment.
Honorable mention: There were so many great reaction shots in this category. This one ‘jumped’ out from the rest, because it was so clean and well photographed. The decisive moment is captured.
