First Place-The reporting and story telling in the caption were outstanding and made a photo that wasn't otherwise extraordinary a winner. It was a strong photo with a good expression and it was clear there was more to the image than could be told with the image alone. Photojournalism is reporting and story telling which as the rules state include the caption and in this case that made the difference for me in a category with only 8 entries so it wasn't loaded with dynamite images.
Second-Good seeing to capture a fleeting moment with a few relevant expressions on different subjects at the same time.
Third-Good fleeting moment expression with action from polar plunge which is pretty much what a photo editor would hope for.
