Top three had great captioning. Lots of peak action. Judges want to commend the photographer covering hockey for having the forethought to photo details. Lots of pictures entered in the wrong category. Please consider what’s happening in the frame before choosing category. For example teams taking the field, exultation and celebration would fit better in Sports Feature rather than Sports Action.
First: Clean and tack sharp, Cropped tight and nothing extra but the important action. The intense eyes elevated it to the top.
Second: Peak action. Can see the puck in the air, the spray of ice and the goalie’s glove on opponent’s mask. All of the elements came together.
Third: Unusual moment with good body language. Could benefit from a tighter crop on the left and up from the bottom ever so slightly so player’s torso doesn’t appear cut in half.
