We had more conversations about this category than the others. The eventual winners rose pretty quickly, but as with the general news category, felt there were a lot of almosts here - images where we wanted to see the frame before or after or, on several, crop for better impact. Backgrounds were very busy on some of these, as well. The first place image was clean and a dramatic moment, just before impact but the volleyball player knows it's coming. The second place image, while the toning was a little off, was a brave crop that we appreciated. The third place image was the one we had all wished for at some point - it's a second-base play, but there's interaction and a moment that's important to the game's story.
