What a start for the month clips contest. So many strong images. Kind of glad the third judge had a scheduling conflict or we might have spent all day arguing about what place to put photos in. This is the 4th different region I’ve (Vincent) judged over the years and the South is by far the strongest set of entries I’ve seen. Honestly, if you had an entry here and thought you for sure would place, I think you probably may have in another region.
1. The light was right, the finger point & yellow bars directs you straight to the popped bubble, and the subjects eyes are open and visible. Chances are you didn’t even notice there’s a hand in front of her till you read this. Clear first.
2. Everything in this image directs you into a loop. The vendors eyes go towards the man eating, his bite leads to the women, her looking into her purse leads back to the cart and you start the loop over. Good piece of modern Americana.
3. So much Norman Rockwell going on here. Stood out during the first look.
HM. Wes Anderson probably would have given this #1. Great image, but hard to win out over photos with people.
