The first place image is a nice quiet moment and is out of the ordinary. The girl's reaction in the second photo carries the photo. Third place is a straight forward news photo. We chose not to include an alternate because of the weakness of the category. This was partly due to many images that seemed to be misplaced. Most common is a confusion between general news and features.
