The mood of the high jumpers photo coupled with the reflection of the water make the photo stand out. With sports, it can sometimes be difficult to go beyond the action at hand and make something unique. Here the photographer did that. Also the 3 runners in different stages of the jump make it work. The others, while interesting and technically proficient, focus on the action at hand and come across as standard sports photos. Not a bad thing, but didn’t make them stand out.
