This was a close category that required a lot of discussion to figure out which ones were at the top. Some factors we heavily considered were the photographer's decision to try a different angle in order to clean up the image or show the full scene.
First place: This one stood out for the choice to get a low angle right by the hurdles and show the scene with the spectators as a nice background element to heighten the composition.
Second place:
Again, getting low was the correct choice that allows us to feel the sense of the play and the impact of the slide. The braces also added to the feeling of photographing a high school game.
Third place: Nice job capturing peak action and the entirety of the calf.
