Overall this was a pretty weak category without too many entries. That being said, there were still some nice images showing photographers rising to the occasion.
First place: We felt that this captured the emotion and stakes of the scene well with nice composition. Great caption information that showed the photographer kept in touch with the subject helped elevate it to the first spot.
Second: Nice hustle by the photographer to get to the scene and photograph it from a variety of angles. They also stayed into the night once passengers started being removed, which we applaud. Could have benefited from a tighter edit, but we especially enjoyed the photos showing the scene of the community flocking to the shore.
Third place: Nice job by the photographer getting in close to the scene
