The entries to the photo essays were a disappointment. Many had such wonderful but squandered opportunities. Many had very poor toning and image quality. First place is in desperate need of an edit. There are 7-10 strong images and the rest dragged it down into confusion. It almost seemed like 2 photographers. For photo essays that don't have a narrative, less is more. The handful of strongest images will carry the package. We were unable to offer second and third places.
