We felt first place was the strongest image because it's bare knuckle fighting for one, but also, the composition is compelling and though the photographer had to contend with the ropes, the position of the subjects and the action of the moment incorporated the ropes in a way that creates a compelling image. Second place was clean, a quick read, and has interesting elements well composed and timed. Third place was well toned and exposed. It's not the most interesting moment, but the competition was pretty weak. The majority of images from this category were poorly exposed, toned, and sharpened as well as being boring.
