1st-such an unusual sight. focal length was in the sweet spot. close enough to show the detail of the firefighters, far enough out to see their surroundings.
2nd-Framing and layering in the perp-walk photo made it stand out. slight soft-focus didn't help.
3rd-first images had perfect exposure, great layers and told a good part of the story. The following photos could have been paired down to three or even two images. Judges felt some of the highlights could have been toned down without breaking the contest rules on post production. Could have been a 2nd place finish.
