Judges Comments

Hands down the toughest category to pick the winners, with first and second were both very strong images that we debated about. In first place, the photographer used the subject to tell a story that was outside of the scene that we're seeing. Excellent tones and lines draw the viewer in with the caption doing a big lift here. The timing of the balloons of second place brings you directly to the sign, telling the story of this celebration of life. Caption could have given more background on why this road or the journey to get the naming passed. Third place is a good representation of the two localized sides in the larger narrative on Roe v. Wade.
