Along with feature story, sports action was a tight competition. We awarded the best cropped image among the finalists as our first place finisher. Volleyball is a difficult sport to successfully photograph and the image is sharp, at the peak moment, with great expressions. With the defender’s helmet coming off, the second place image showed great timing. In third place, we liked how the one hockey player’s face is hidden, the jersey pulled over his face, yet his hair is flying in the air – just a great moment captured.
