1st, Agony of defeat: It's never fun to get photos of the team that didn't win. The photographer did a great job of capturing a mood of dejection and isolation following a defeat. The image is strengthened by having both the helmet and the football in the frame. If we were to pick nits, cropping out the white lines in the lower left would have been good to clean up the photo a little more, but overall a photo we really liked a lot.
2nd goal: Fun image of the hockey players interacting with fans against the glass. Being able to see the faces of fans through the glass, but also the players, gave a good sense of the mood of the moment.
3rd ClassBFH: Another fun shot reflecting the mixed emotions of getting a runner-up award. Cropping the partial face at left would have cleaned up the composition a bit.
Hon. mention, Ilya Sorokin: Nice to see a nice moment outside the usual action. We liked the close crop.
Hon. mention: It's always good to see photographers paying attention to things besides the main action. Great to get a shot of people so many people all holding up their phones at the NYC Marathon. It's something that would have looked futuristic 20 years ago and dated 20 years from now, nice moment in time.
