The flamingo picture we like because it captures the mood but we wish it had been slightly cropped on the right to make it stronger. It’s an unusual take and not the same as we always see. The child’s photo at yoga we like since it’s a nice playful photo with nice interaction between the yoga instructor and little kid shown at an unusual angle. The photographer made something on an otherwise average assignment. The fireworks photo was a nice use of long exposure and placement of the people in the foreground. Overall the category showed solid work but nothing that really stood out.
A lot of the submitted photos in the Feature category did not fit into the category. For us, feature photography means finding something unusual but these are all from planned events. Due to that, some were eliminated right away. The bottom line is you have to shovel out work every day and we would have been okay submitting these for our own daily work but nothing obviously stood above the rest.
