First place has a unique perspective. It's a striking image and the photojournalist has told us alot about this family without necessarily showing the faces. The image has to be studied - it's not a quick read and grew on the judges. The second place winner is a quick read. The photographer was observant to find this image. It's well-crafted, and painterly. She's just right, not too sharp, not to soft. The third place winner featured tennis balls that are randomly but perfectly spaced. The photojournalist didn't just settle for a standard portrait. It showed some creativity.
