1) Color and composition made this image. The photographer put themselves in the right place and waited for the final element -- the sun burst. Nicely Done!
2) Judges could almost feel the cool, refreshing water. Tight composition was the correct decision for this situation and the child's expression is awesome.
3) Having had to cover a similar event in the past, judges were impressed with the perspective putting the emphasis on a sky full of birds. The soft light and body language lifted this image into a place.
