First was an easy choice for photo story/essay. The photographer had a strong variety in images and clearly followed the subject for an extended period of time. The photographer did especially well in earning the subjects trust enough to be present during emotional moments like at a doctors appointment. The timeline of going from injured and out of play to returning brings the story full circle and makes it more than a collection of images like other entries.
