First Place: From what could have been a mundane assignment, this photographer made a pice of art that gave the viewer a surprise. We were impressed. Second Place: The photographer had quick reflexes to capture this fleeting moment. Great timing. Third Place: The composition of this photo lets the viewer see it all — like a bird's-eye view of the setting. The timing is good, too, because it helps the viewer understand what is taking place. The photographer had the courage to not get too close, allowing the viewer to let the layers of the photo breathe. Alternate: We like the leading lines that go straight to the surfer. Nice composition.
