Instead of going to the high school for a portrait of a basketball player, the photographer had him at the gym he grew up on. That and the excellent lighting made it the first place photograph. The second place photograph is a simple yet evenly lit portrait. The judges were taken with the coloring of subjects lipstick, blouse, and background. Judges appreciated the access to the third place subject and his expression.
