We were surprised by how little there was to choose from in this category. We thought several photos could have done better in another category such as general news or feature. Most images seemed very far away from the subjects and few were strong moments. 1. This was our first pick because of several reasons. The photographer much closer to his subjects than other images and had several faces in the frame. The image itself was overall pretty clean and there was good eye movement to the lower quadrant of the frame. 2. This photo was a good scene-setter image and had several layers of information. 3. This photo had some good eye movement that lead a viewer to the subject and quicksand he was wading through.
