Judges would have liked to see more complete captions including cities and states. 1) Judges went with a straight-forward news photo where the photographer had excellent access. 2) Good seeing on the photographer's part to keep an eye on the edges of the action for things that make a picture, like the very upset cat. 3) Judges were impressed with the creative way the photographer covered the massive fire. Excellent use of the rule-of-thirds
