New England – April 2021 – Feature/Single

Judges Comments

First - This photo stands out for its personal vision. It’s playful in both form and content. Are we inside or outside of the fishbowl? The human figure provides scale. Ordinary features – even a dumpster! – are rendered magically. Second - The photographer chose the right perspective (down low) to get good separation and use of the sky. The timing of the moment shows the precarity of the action and makes us feel the tension of the moment. The creative exposure renders a beautiful monochrome with effective separation of the silhouettes. Third - This painterly photo shows creativity without sacrifice of storytelling. It successfully challenges the traditional use of limited depth of field technique. The subtlety of the rim light on the leaves is a very nice touch.
