A fairly light category. even in the south a lot of sports were on hiatus in January. The category was definitely dominated by celebration photos. This is not necessarily a bad thing. There were a lot of good "jube" photos. What stood out was anything that got away from the standard. First place was the outright winner from the start. A storytelling moment, away from the action, topical to the times we are in, visually strong, eye-catching, with a top-notch caption as well. Second place caught our eye for the pure dramatic physicality of the moment. The fact that it was a pre-game moment was unusual. One would think such risky behavior before the game might be frowned-upon by the coaching staff. Third was probably the most cliche moment of the choices, but the composition and framing really made the image pop-out on the screen for us and that elevated it.
