Judges Comments

There were just too many non-moments here. So many photos of people getting vaccinated, and none of them stood out. Several images that might be better categorized as features (yes, that’s a recurring problem between the two categories) but might not have fared any better there. If you’re shooting something that is, or at least borders on the cliché, it’s got to be executed particularly well. First place was an image we’ve seen more than a few times in the last year, and may not be the best we’ve seen ever, but was the best we saw this time out. The composition is a little tight on the left, but the clear emotional connection, the strong body language and the strong use of the light and reflection carried it to the top. Second place is simple, clean, and emotional. Third was a good storytelling moment in a story on a quadruple amputee. The moment is there, the light and action all work well together.
