There were lots of good, straightforward examples entered in this category. Clean, simple images that appealed visually, but lacked either the storytelling element, or fell short on the aesthetic merits. First place jumped out to all of us immediately. We may need to read the caption to get the specifics, but the facial expression, body language, the pose and the light create the combination that makes us what to know more, and really feel this person’s pain. Second was a nicely done sportrait, the light is really strong, the image is remarkably gritty for an entirely lit and posed scene. In third we liked the choice to go away from the static portrait pose and capture a more fluid scene.
