Family farming was awarded first in a thin category (only these three entries) based more on aspiration, not necessarily execution. This photographer tried to keep going back and tell a story. Second was a collection from a rally, with a few nice photos, but really doesn’t ‘come together’ into anything cohesive. Third is a redundant (both visually and with regards to content) take from what looks like a roughly 30-minute shoot in a single hospital room. We get how hard that situation is, but some details and tighter editing would have helped.
