Overall this category lacked variety and there were so many photos that were missing moments. In many photos, there wasn’t much connection with the subject. First place: We felt like this had more of a moment than any of the other photos. There’s a lot of emotion in her face and body language. Second place: We understand the photographer’s intent to set the mood for the story with the lighting, but we wish the photographer would have taken a step to the left and had the subject turn his face just slightly so he would have some light on the left side of his face, making it a little less of a silhouette and making it a little more personal. Third place: We appreciate that there is a genuine moment in this photo and instead of just snapping a photo on the street, the photographer got the the backstory.
