We were immediately drawn to the leading shape in the first place image. Technically, a shallower depth of field may have improved the image by obscuring the brick wall in the background, but still excellent seeing by the photographer. The second place image is a fantastic portrait, definitely showing this centenarian's character. The third place image is well done technically, but lacks an emotional connection to the subject as seen in the first two. It seems almost sterile.
