Of the more than 90 entries in the Features category, many were excellent and we wrestled narrowing the set down to our favorites. Lots of strong entries, but we eventually settled on images that offered the viewer a unique moment or engaging perspective. First place - Despite considerable hemming and hawing over the other contenders, the first place selection was a consensus pick for us. The backstory and tenor of the moment elevated it above the others in pretty short order. Second place - There were, surprisingly to us, a number of lightning photos in this category. We found our second place choice to be exceptionally-well composed and captured – certainly meeting one of the category criteria of an image that “shows graphic and aesthetic qualities of a subject with strong emphasis on composition.” Very nicely done. Third place - Our third award was just a moment we hadn’t seen before and we were drawn to the overall quirkiness of the situation.
