Several outstanding entries featuring excellent work in some pretty dynamic environments here. First place - We were struck by the intimacy of the protest photos which were captured in a contentious, challenging environment. One can almost hear, smell and feel the surroundings in this excellent set of images. Second place - Not sure exactly when a day-long effort no longer becomes “spot news,” but the uniqueness of this situation and the photo’s associated caption made us laugh out loud. Third place - The missing children essay offered a number of extraordinary moments, but might have benefitted from a little tighter edit and a resolution – either in image or caption. We were left wondering from the essay about the fate of both girls. Still, very nice work from a really sensitive situation.
